Why your next case needs a visual strategy
Because justice may be blind, but jurors are not!
Studies have shown that:
- People can remember more than 2,000 pictures with at least 90% accuracy
- Presentations using visual support are 43% more persuasive, creating the perception that the presenter is more concise, clearer, more professional, more persuasive, and more interesting
But all visuals are not effective visuals.
Well crafted graphics can help break down complex medical issues or collision scenes, but they are often overly focused on the injury itself and do very little to make the jury connect with your client’s story.
Essentially, they can make a jury understand what happened, but they may not make a jury care about your client.

A Little About Me
I’m Taryn J. Smith, a professional videographer and graphic designer. Over ten years ago, I began using my skillset to create mediation videos and graphics for litigation. I learned methods and strategies from top trial lawyers and trial consultants. My work has impacted hundreds of cases, transforming even some of the least promising intakes into million dollar recoveries.
I’m passionate about learning each case, strategizing, and crafting visual stories that motivate jurors to take action.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between trial graphics and visual strategy?
Trial graphics tend to focus on the mechanism of injury, or the injury itself. While this can be helpful in showing how severe your client’s injury may be, it doesn’t always show the extent of how your client’s life has been impacted.
A visual strategy, on the other hand, produces a series of graphics that focuses on the heart of your case. It draws viewers into the story behind what injured your client, the full impact of your client’s injury, and motivates viewers to take action to make things right for your client.
Is a visual strategy only for cases going to trial?
A visual strategy is best put to use long before you know if the case will settle. In fact, building your visual strategy at the beginning of discovery will focus your case early on and avoid wasting time and resources.
How long does it take to build a visual strategy?
I like to work in 4-hour sessions, with your legal team and I walking through key issues and building your visual strategy together in real time. This can be done over the life of one case, or we can do a series of sessions for multiple cases. How long it takes to build out an entire set of storyboards for one case depends on the case itself, but we should have an idea of the scope of work in our first strategy session.
For cases involving mediation video, we will meet for a video strategy session before I conduct interviews, shoot and edit, typically over the course of 2-4 weeks.
Can you work on a project with a tight deadline?
I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to start the process as early as possible, but I understand that sometimes cases come with tight deadlines. I’m happy to discuss your case and see what can be done. Please reach out to me as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.
